About ONDA

Built for NorCal. Designed to grow with every coastline we touch.

ONDA started with a simple frustration: the tools surfers relied on never fully captured what it actually feels like to surf Northern California. The best information wasn’t coming from an app — it lived in dawn patrol parking lots, quick calls between friends, group texts, and the instincts of people who’ve spent years watching the ocean.

We knew there had to be a better way.

So we built ONDA: a place where trusted forecasts, live conditions, local knowledge, news, community updates, and the energy of the lineup all come together in one experience. Built by surfers who know these coastlines firsthand, ONDA helps people spend less time searching and more time scoring fun sessions.

We’re starting in NorCal because it’s home — because these waves, communities, and coastlines shaped who we are. But this is only the beginning. Our vision is to grow across California and beyond, bringing the same local-first approach to surf communities everywhere while staying true to what makes each coastline unique.

Our vision

To build the most trusted surf community platform anywhere — connecting surfers to better information, better sessions, and each other.

Our values

Our team

We’re a small team of surfers and builders based in Northern California, creating ONDA alongside the people who know these coastlines best. We work closely with local surfers, streamers, photographers, and small businesses up and down the coast to build something rooted in trust, community, and real experience in the water.

Quincy Carroll

Founder & CEO

Quincy is the Founder and CEO of ONDA, where he leads the company’s product vision, technology strategy, and overall direction. Since founding the company, Quincy has personally designed and built much of the ONDA platform, working closely with surfers, forecasters, and industry experts to create a more personalized approach to surf forecasting and discovery.

Before starting ONDA, Quincy spent more than two decades building products, leading teams, and working with technology-driven organizations. He earned his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and has long been passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems through thoughtful, user-centered design.

Based in Northern California, Quincy has spent a lifetime surfing the coast from Santa Cruz to San Francisco. Like many surfers, he experienced the frustration of driving hours for disappointing conditions, conflicting forecasts, and missed opportunities. That firsthand experience became the inspiration for ONDA.

Today, Quincy remains deeply involved in every aspect of the company, from product development and engineering to company strategy and growth. He works closely with the ONDA team, local surf communities, and trusted experts to build technology that helps surfers make better decisions and get more out of their time in the water.

Garrett Schmid

Wave Forecasting Lead

Garrett is the Wave Forecasting Lead at ONDA, where he oversees the data models and predictive science that power the platform. He focuses on bridging the gap between complex coastal data and the everyday surfer, making sure ONDA delivers accurate, reliable forecasts to help the community confidently score great sessions.

Based in Santa Cruz, Garrett is a self-proclaimed surf forecasting nerd who meticulously logs his sessions and visualizes swell trends. He draws on a rich background in the water, having swum Division I while earning his BS in Marine Science from Cal Poly SLO, followed by an MS in Data Science from Claremont Graduate University. Before joining ONDA, he spent two years as an energy resilience consultant at Guidehouse, building models to protect the power grid from extreme wind, fire, and flood events. Today, he blends that data background with a lifelong passion for the ocean — surfing as much as possible, traveling for waves, and staying active in his local community by teaching yoga.
